SUE-ANNE WEBSTER is known throughout the world as Australia's top female magician. Not only is she a performer, she's also a lecturer, inventor, illustrator and author.
EARLY DAYS
Born in Sydney, Australia, Sue-Anne's interest in magic was sparked by watching 'The David Nixon Show' on TV. She learned many tricks on her own and even had her own 'Tommy Talker' ventriloquist doll.
Sue-Anne's interest in the performing arts led her to work in television for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation as an Assistant Director on the television program 'Beatbox', and on the set of 'Tusitala' at the French's Forest Film Studio.
STUDY
In 1988, Sue-Anne began art lessons taught by Turoa Walmsley, who happened to be a magician with an interest in helping young people develop their skills in magic. Delighted, Sue-Anne took up the rare opportunity offered to her, igniting her career in magic. She began performing as a female magician in nursing homes, children's parties, public shows in Town Halls and later regular gigs at cafes and restaurants around Sydney.
To learn more about performance skills, Sue-Anne studied drama at The Australian Playhouse Studio in Sydney from 1990 to 1992 and went on to educate herself in Advanced Film and Television and Screen Acting Technique at The Actor's Centre in Sydney. She also studied Pyrotechnics, Latin Dance, Puppetry and Mime. She has worked as an actor in many stage shows, film productions, TV commercials, a television sitcom and even a music video.
JEANNIE
Sue-Anne met Tim is 1997 and began working as a female magician with Magic Unlimited in Melbourne. She performed regularly in 'Cunning Stunts' at The Mystery Lounge and in 'Dreams and Illusions' at Capers Dinner Theatre.
She began performing close up magic in character as 'Jeannie' from the TV show 'I Dream of Jeannie' and a photo of her in costume was spotted by the founder of www.IDreamOfJeannie.com He was amazed and the uncanny likeness and made her the official Jeannie lookalike, the only woman in the world to be granted such an honour.
INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITION
In 2001 Sue-Anne received another honour when she received an invitation to the prestigious FFFF Close Up Magic Convention in New York, USA. Only the very top close up magicians in the world are invited, and very, very few are females.
After lecturing and performing she became the first female ever to be given the 'Lou Gallo Award' for 'Most Valuable Participant', which she shared with Tim Ellis.
AWARDS
In 1999 Sue-Anne created a ten minute 'Haunted Mansion' act which won the Silver Medal at the Australian National Convention of Magicians. She later expanded the act into an extremely popular 50 minute show which toured schools for several years.
In 2004 she took out the Gold Medal for best stage act at with her amazing 'I Dream of Jeannie' tribute. The following year she performed a longer version of the act at The Magic Castle in Hollywood. While she was there she lectured with Tim Ellis and was subsequently nominated 'Lecturer of the Year', the first time an Australian has ever received such an accolade.
OTHER STUFF
Sue-Anne not only performs magic, but she travels the world lecturing and teaching other magicians as well. She even writes magic books and invents tricks which are sold to magicians internationally.
She has explored the "New Age" and found it lacking. As a magician, she uses her knowledge of magic to expose frauds and tricksters who use sleight of hand and psychology to further a belief in the occult. As a Christian, she prefers to seek the truth..
Sue-Anne's other interests include drawing cartoons, Latin dance, redesigning her house, looking after her bottomless pit, time tunnel, and two rainbow Lorikeets 'Sir Spectrum Sparks' and 'Jackie The Bandit'.
